Now accepting PreK and Kindergarten registrations!  Contact Mrs. Valente (valente@deruytercentral.org) for details.  Come learn with us!

Why PreK?
Students who start their education early enjoy greater academic and social-emotional success.  The DeRuyter PreK Program strives to educate the whole child and is play-based and rooted in developmentally appropriate practices seeking to develop social, language, motor and academic-readiness skills.  Students not only learn their shapes, colors, letters and numbers, but they also learn how to take turns, be a good friend, solve problems, be creative and MUCH more!  We have seen firsthand that Rockets who start with us as PreK students develop greater independence, stronger executive functioning and language skills, and demonstrate strong kindergarten readiness.

PreK Information
The DeRuyter Prek Program is a NYS grant-funded program.  Our program runs five full days a week, following the District calendar, and is open to DeRuyter residents turning four years of age by December 1st of the current school year.  Students are eligible to ride the bus once they turn four years old.

PreK Schedule
Each day of Prek discovery starts with a whole class morning meeting where a sense of community and belonging is built and continually nurtured.  PreK Rockets attend specials daily and have access to FREE breakfast and lunch.  The daily schedule offers instructional time, plenty of play time (including outdoor time), rest/nap time and opportunities for whole group, small group and independent learning.  Learning is hands-on and play-based.

PreK Curriculum
Students learn pre-reading skills through the Wonders and Heggerty curricula and foundational math skills through the Eureka Math Squared curriculum.
